Azerbaijan Wants the 2016 Olympics!

Azerbaijan wants to host the 2016 Summer Olympics, President Ilham Aliev said Monday.

The nation receives revenue from abundant oil and gas resources from the Caspian Sea, but is locked in a dispute with neighboring Armenia over Nagorno-Karabakh, a mountainous area controlled by Armenian forces since the end of a six-year war in 1994.

This is as likely to happen as the Gaza Games of 2012.

Armenians Participate in Game of Intellect

If you speak Russian, chances are you know about this game. If not, here you go:

The “What, Where, When” Russian-language intellectual game that originated in the 1970s and Brain Ring established later are currently widely spread in CIS countries.

During the game six intellectual players get a question sent by TV viewers and discuss it for one minute, and then the captain of the team decides who gives the answer, which, if correct, brings a point.

With stormy discussions and great enthusiasm Armenian intellectual players try to find answers to interesting questions. Every correct answer is followed by gleeful celebration.

The unique aspect is not the game, but that it was sponsored - that is, paid for - by Armenia's Ministry of Culture and Youth Affairs. However, since fewer Armenians speak Russian, some of the teams are not as strong, as they must first translate and then solve the questions.

Armenian Athletes Win 89 Medals in 2006!

A big congratulations from ArmeniaBlog to all of our athletes!

In the outgoing year Armenian athletes have won 89 medals at different international tournaments. Armen Grigorian, the deputy chief of sport department, said the main task of Armenian athletes next year will be to qualify for 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

One Armenian athlete, shooter Norayr Bakhtamian, has already qualified for the Olympic Games.

I hope that we will see some gold medals in Beijing!
