Recently, I reported that
Armenia received $76 million in direct aid from the United States in 2006. I also wrote, "Do we know how that $76 million - which is not part of the aforementioned program - is spent or will be spent? We need total transparency."
Anyway, I did some research to find out exactly how much is spent and where. I have the numbers below:
Basic Education: $350,000
Agriculture & Environment: $13,517,000
Higher Education & Training: $4,293,000
Economic Growth: $25,707,000
Democracy & Governance: $20,503,000
Conflict Management / Humanitarian Assistance: $1,600,000
Family Planning / Reproductive Health: $3,955,000
HIV / AIDS: $105,000
Child Survival and Maternal Health: $3,767,000
Vulnerable Children: $140,000
Other Infectious Diseases: $313,000
Total: $74,250,000
This is a different figure from the above quoted $76 million, which could mean that there is either a mistake in the original source or that there is other funding from the U.S.: the latter is more likely.
