ArmenTel Gains Even More Customers

It is amazing that there is such a great demand for cell phones in a country as small as Armenia.
The number of mobile subscribers of the "ArmenTel" Company reached 450 thousand.

In November 2006, when "VimpelCom" purchased 90% share of "ArmenTel" from the Greek OTE, the number of the mobile subscribers of the Company was 400 thousand.
So in less than four months, about 50,000 new people decided that they should have cell phones. Amazing!

ArmenTel to Disconnect Internet Telephony Companies

Your days of using VoIP to curb long distance calls may be coming to a screeching halt! By the way, VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol, which is basically a way of sending voice over the internet and bypassing traditional phone services.
The chief manager of Russia-owned ArmenTel telephone operator Oleg Bliznyuk warned yesterday companies providing Internet telephony (IP) services that their telephones will be disconnected on January 25 because their services are illegal.

He said ArmenTel was ready to negotiate with around 300 companies providing Internet telephony services dealer agreements. He declines rumors that ArmenTel was going to raise prices of IP services.
It must feel good to operate as a virtual monopoly and get away with it.
