Famous Composer Refuses Armenian Anthem

This is a bit of an old story, but you should know about it. Armenia's current anthem dates back to the beginning of the 20th century and some feel that it does not accurately reflect modern Armenia.
Famous composer Tigran Mansuryan said today he is not going to take part in the selection process of national anthem.

Speaking about “Our Motherland” which is the official national anthem of the republic again, Mansuryan said, “This national anthem is our shame.” He said the music and the words have no Armenia origins. He said it is a translated text.

The composer prefers the music by Aram Khachatryan saying it is very Armenian music. “The question is – is it ours or not?”
I quite like the anthem, but maybe that's because I don't seem to know anything after the first verse! ;)

u know nothing past the first verse? wow u should be proud to be an armenian.
some idiots say the song is too gloomy and it doesnt match our current status as a nation. so what retards! are you going to change the song everytime the situation changes?
that songs speaks of times which should never be forgotten, and that song must be sung to pass on that feeling of patriotism and revolution. our current anthem is a reminder to us.
azerbeijan is constantly making threats of military action and breaking ceasefires to provoke armenians, they want to attack, and idiots in armenia are talking about changing the anthem? could you find a better time to debate such a stupid thing?
traitors to occupying communists.
look what the communists did to armenia, they made them lazy and unemployed, there are armenians who can speak russian but not armenian!, for shame

I sometimes like to joke on the blog, and that thing about the first verse was a joke. I had to memorize it as a kid growing up there, so of course I know it!

I do agree with the rest of your comment: it's pretty ridiculous, isn't it?
